I don’t know how I came to love insurance. I struggle with maths but I am intrigued by how social and emotional skills impact a wide range of life outcomes. In particular, skills such as Trust and Self-efficacy that are highly relevant for personal wellbeing, may also predict unique personal finance outcomes for women. I care about how women cope with financial shocks and how these experiences affect how they choose to approach risk mitigation solutions at different life stages.

This passion stems from my training in Agriculture and over 15 years’ experience in Insurance where I began to understand how diverse women’s lived experiences are and the complexity of designing tailored solutions for them. My experience includes life insurance sales, teaching insurance agents for the college of insurance Nairobi and dedicating 10 years to agriculture insurance product development for Syngenta Foundation and ACRE Africa.

So far at Busara, I have led several landscape studies in digital credit, pensions and health research. I have a preference for qualitative research methods and enjoy facilitating sprints and co-design workshops. Because insurance risk analysis often has to be data driven, I am working towards growing my understanding of games and predictive methods for unseen behaviour where there isn’t a lot of insurance data to work with.
